There are four ambassadors, all city councillors: Dennis Jones, Ikra Yasin, Lucinda Robinson and Dr Shabina Qayyum. Their role is to be the channel of communication between those of you of who need assistance to get you through these difficult times and those who are in a position to offer help.

Some examples of what’s been achieved so far include: local business Archie Brothers Fruit and Veg have pledged unlimited supplies of fruit and vegetables to anyone who needs it.

Another well-known business, Adams Cash and Carry, is providing raw ingredients for people to cook with. So far enough for meals for 150 people has been provided, with the cooking done by volunteers.

That’s just two of the pledges amongst the many coming in from all over the city.

Other initiatives are the sourcing of UHT milk to combat the shortage of fresh milk, and also looking into sourcing more Personal Protective Equipment to help towards the national shortage.

So if you are in need of help, or if you feel you can offer help to those who need it, then please get in touch with one of the four ambassadors. The contact details can be found on the Peterborough City Council website www.peterborough.gov.uk/council/councillors by clicking on ‘Your Councillors’ on the drop-down menu. They will pass your details on to the COVAID co-ordinators.

It’s really wonderful to see this outpouring of help throughout the city and to see everyone getting behind a concerted effort to help those in need.
