Letter: What next for Peterborough’s Key Theatre - a much-loved asset?

Whilst happy to run these whilst there was money to be made, they were soon handed back to our city council when the going got tough.

As was mentioned in the Peterborough Telegraph, libraries, swimming pools etc will be taken over by the council. Sadly, there was no mention of what is to become of our Key Theatre.

My husband and I have long been members of the Key Theatre Club and regularly visit the theatre.

Our grandchildren have benefitted from attending the Key Theatre summer school, students from Nene Park Academy (sponsored by my Rotary Club) have performed Shakespeare on stage and members of our Rotary Memory Café have enjoyed film shows and attended pantomimes and variety shows (again funded by Rotary).

This theatre is much loved and a valuable asset. Are the city council going to take it over on a permanent basis? Will the current highly successful management team and our Key Theatre Club be allowed to continue to function as before?

The Government has made money available to help theatres struggling financially as a result of the pandemic – can we hope someone has applied for this money?

We do not want further money to be wasted on consultancy fees – we just want the Key Theatre to be able to get on and do what it does so well.
