Letter: Build a raft and stay involved with Deepings Raft Race

As we are sure most people know, the 2020 Deepings Raft Race has been cancelled.

In its place this year we are encouraging children to enter a mini raft building competition, ideally built from recycled materials and designed to any theme you like.

To enter the competition, simply take a photo or short video of your raft and email it to: [email protected]

They won’t be raced on the river this year but you can keep them for 2021 - and we ask that for what would have been raft race weekend this year (1st / 2nd August), you display them in your front window or front garden for the public to enjoy.

Entries close on 28th July 2020 and we will publish pictures of the best ones on Deepings Raft Race website and social media pages.

If we get enough entries, we will produce a “route” to show people where they can have a walk around the Deepings to admire the mini rafts.

The winner will be announced on 2nd August and will receive £50.

To add to the fun, the Raft Race Committee will be donning fancy dress and walking around the Deepings on the Sunday as we are supporting the Deeping-a-thon which aims to raise money for charities that will have lost out due to the cancellation of many fund raising events this year.

And don’t forget to put 1st August 2021 in your diary for what we hope to be the biggest and best ever event when the full-blown Deepings Raft Race returns.
