New face takes on Assistant Chief Constable role at Cambridgeshire police

Nav Malik, was most recently Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Protective Services with Warwickshire and West Mercia Police Strategic Alliance, will take over from ACC Mark Hopkins who retires in the summer.

Chief Constable Alec Wood said: “I am delighted that Nav has accepted this position and I look forward to working with him over the coming years.

“I think Nav will fit in really well and will be a real asset to the force.”

Mr Malik said: “It is an honour to have been offered this opportunity and can’t wait to get started in my new role.

“I have been impressed with the work I have seen in Cambridgeshire and look forward to meeting people in the county and our partners over the coming months.”

Nav has 26 year’s police service. He started his career in Leamington Spa and following his probation period was appointed Detective Constable. His career allowed him to remain within CID and major crime throughout his promotions up to detective superintendent. He has been Head of Intelligence, Head of Major Crime and Det Supt staff officer, to the then Head of ACPO Crime Business Area, Chief Constable Keith Bristow.

As part of the Strategic Alliance Nav was the first senior appointment from Warwickshire into West Mercia Police when he took the role of Area Commander at Telford, a role he held for 2 and half years.

He has been a hostage negotiator and coordinator for more than 13 years.

He is married and has two sons. Nav will start on June 1.
