Neighbours rally round after Peterborough house gutted by fire

Neighbours have been quick to offer their support to the victim of a house fire in Peterborough.

Various offers of support and donations for essentials have come in from the local community and the Coronaheroes Facebook pages after it is understood that much of the inside of the house has been completely destroyed.

Ten fire crews from Dogsthorpe, Stanground and Yaxley, along with the north roaming fire engine were called to the fire on Spencer Avenue in Stanground on Tuesday afternoon (November 10).

When they arrived, they found both the ground and first floors of the house on fire and evacuated the house.

Using breathing apparatus, they put the fire out and cleared the smoke using ventilation fans.

One man was taken to hospital as a precaution but the Peterborough Telegraph understands he was seen talking to neighbours before this.

A number of animals were also thought to be in the property, all are now being cared for elsewhere.

An eyewitness said: “It was quite a shock, it all happened so fast.

“The fire seemed to spread really quickly and there was lots of black smoke, you could see it from a long way off.

!I saw all the people that were evacuated, they looked shaken understandably but appeared to be ok. I hope that is the case.”

Another added: “The smoke was noticeable right away, it was really thick and spreading fast, I’m glad fire crews were able to evacuate the house.

“I hope everyone is safe and I know there are alot of people in this area that will be willing to help out in any way they can.”

Fire crews put out the fire and remained on the scene to make sure the area was safe.

An investigation will now take place to find out the cause of the fire.
