'Lucky escape' for motorists as nobody is seriously injured in major six vehicle crash on A1M

Multiple fire, police and ambulance crews, including the air ambulance, were called to the road between Haddon and Yaxley at around 6.19pm.

The crash involved six vehicles, including a Peugeot which left the road, hit a tree and came to rest on its roof. Fire crews used specialist cutting equipment to release one casualty who was taken to hospital.

A white van, minibus, white Ford Fiesta, black BMW and white Mercedes saloon were also damaged in the crash.

Ambulance crews have this morning, Thursday, confirmed that nobody was seriously injured in the crash.

An eyewitness who was stuck in the queue created after the collision, which closed the road until around 10pm, said those involved had had a “very lucky escape.”

He told the Peterborough Telegraph: “When you see a car off the carriageway on its roof and a tree flattened to the ground you fear the worst.

“I’m just glad those involved have not been seriously injured, they’ve had a very lucky escape.

“It’s scary to think that if I was a few seconds further up the road I could have been caught up in the crash too.”

Watch Commander Matt House said: “This incident involved a large number of vehicles including one which had overturned, and saw the ambulance treat a number of casualties on the scene as well as one person taken to hospital.

“The multi-agency approach between the fire service, ambulance and air ambulance paramedics and police resulted in the incident being dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible ensuring the best possible treatment for the casualties involved.

“We’re experiencing lots of changing weather at the moment and we would advise all drivers to take extra care on the roads during these coming days and weeks; drive to the conditions and leave plenty of room between your car and the vehicle in front.”
