LOOKING BACK: Long Causeway
Today it is part of the pedestrianised centre of the city and work has recently been completed on a major refurbishment, which included the creation of Green Square, as part of Peterborough City Council’s public realm strategy.
The road was built as an integral part of a medieval plan by Abbot Martin de Bec and has been a main artery to the heart of the city ever since.

Hide AdToday’s pictures feature some super snapshots of the street, including an atmospheric photograph of market traders hard at work selling their goods early in the 20th century.
There are also pictures of the street pre and post pedestrianisation (was this in the 70s?) and during the work.
If you have any information about the pictures or memories of the street, please get in touch.
