Little left of village home after arson attack

Arsonists destroyed a two-storey house in Haddon near Peterborough yesterday, Sunday February 22.

Crews from Stanground, Dogsthorpe and Sawtry were called to the blaze at a derelict property in New Road, Haddon at 5.10pm.

The two-storey house was well alight, including both floors and the roof space. Firefighters used jets and hydrants to extinguish the fire. A water carrier from Ramsey also attended.

The property has been totally destroyed. At 6.40pm the incident was scaled down and firefighters extinguished hotspots.

Crews returned to their stations by 8.40pm. A crew continued to return to the property overnight to check for hotspots and dampen down areas.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate. Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
