Gallery: Deeping Duck Race 2015

The annual event, organised by the Deeping Lions Club, attracted more than 1,500 spectators who lined the banks of the River Welland to watch the epic duck race.

In the event’s main race, more than 3,000 bright yellow rubber ducks made their way along the river, travelling under the famous River Welland stone bridge, in a bid to win their sponsor a fabulous cash prize of £100.

The lucky winner of that prize was Raffaele, followed by The Bell Pub who won second and Ann Buttery who finished third.

Held alongside the main race, were three other duck races, split up into a race for the local pubs, estate agents and shops.

The winners of each race were The Coach House, Beebys Estate Agents and Private Kollection.

One of the event organisers, Dave Turner from the Deeping Lions Club said: “It was such a beautiful day and there was a great turnout. Everyone got into the spirit of the event, with the children donning their duck headbands and making a lot of noise with their duck whistles.”

Even the Rev Ann Bossingham got into the spirit donning her duck headband at the sideline, along with carnival queen Francesca Southwood who started the main race.

The money raised at the event will be split between two charities - the British Heart Foundation and CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), in memory of local teenager, Lucy Jessop who died in February this year following a heart attack. Dave added: “It’s great that we can raise lots of money for such great causes every year. A lot of work goes into these events, but it’s all worth it.”
