Gallery: Bourne’s Magical Christmas Fair 2015

The event took place on Saturday (November 28) and North Street and Wherry’s Lane were full of stalls selling Christmas gifts, tasty festive food and charities hosting stalls to raise funds for various good causes.

Santa spent the day in his grotto hearing the wishlists of youngsters before heading to the stage to help mayor Philip Knowles turn on the town’s Christmas lights.

There was entertainment all day from school choirs and local bands, with pantomime performers mingling with shoppers to add some extra atmosphere.

The fair was organised by the Bourne Events Team. Committee member Claire Saberton was delighted with the day.

“It was amazing,” she said. “We had record numbers despite the freezing weather.

“We filled Wherry’s Lane with some unusual stalls, such as the mulled wine stall that sold hot toddies with cream. And we had Santa’s grotto, sponsored by Rosedales, which the kids really enjoyed.

“The entertainment on stage was really high-quality. And we had a snow machine so it snowed when Santa turned the lights on, which was beautiful.

“They are great every year; Bourne always does a good job.”

Many of the shops ran special offers, including the chance to win a camera worth £100 at Gordon’s Photographic, and there was a competition for the best-dressed shop window.

Bourne Corn Exchange hosted a craft fair, while at Bourne Methodist Church, the 11th annual Christmas Tree Festival took place with some wonderful decorations on the 40 trees on display.

Bourne Town Hall was also open as part of the consultation on its future.

Claire added: “Bourne Events Team would like to say a huge thanks to everyone involved. There are six of us on the committee but a lot of people helped, from putting out signs to helping us organise the day.

“All the profits will go into making next year’s event bigger and better.”
