Record numbers of young runners and their families put on their trainers to participate in the Anna’s Hope Fun Run on Sunday, October 11, alongside more serious runners taking on a half-marathon.

The 5km fun run took place on Sunday in Peterborough ahead of the Perkins Great Eastern Run, which saw thousands of runners take part in the annual half-marathon and wheelchair race.

The fun run has been an integral part of the Perkins Great Eastern Run for eight years, working closely with the Anna’s Hope charity, which works to support children and young people affected by brain tumours and their families.

Anna’s Hope founder Carole Hughes said of this year’s event: “It was a brilliant day and all at Anna’s Hope are proud to be part of such a fantastic event.

“The Anna’s Hope fairy helpers were out in force and it was good to see lots of school children again this year competing in The Junior Challenge which is supported by ChromaSport and Trophies and Buckles Solicitors.

“I want to thank all those runners who raised money for their chosen charity and those who ran or walked in support of our charity.

“Every penny raised for Anna’s Hope will go to helping children in the region diagnosed with a brain tumour.”

Among those taking part in the fun run were six-year-old Georgie Thomas and mum Laura, who ran in aid of The Phoebe Research Fund.

The fund will help with research into the rare genetic skin disease Epidermolysis Bullosa, which local girl Phoebe Crowson suffers from.
