Full moon in Peterborough is an out of this world exhibition

There has been a full cathedral - and a full moon - in Peterborough after an out-of-this world art exhibition opened in the city.

The Museum of the Moon was unveilled at Peterborough Cathedral on Friday with a spectacular performance in the 900-year-old building’s precincts.

The Museum of the Moon, which has been put on by Vivacity, has seen a seven metre model of the Earth’s satelite hung from the ceiling in the Cathedral - casting a shadow on the Soyuz spacecraft which took Tim Peake to the International Space Station, and back to Earth.

The exhibition is the work of UK artist Luke Jerram, with the surface of the moon made up of images from NASA.

On opening night, there was a performance of Sufi:Zen by Akademi in the Cathedral grounds.

Sheena Carman, Vivacity Arts Programme Manager says: “Museum of the Moon has wowed audiences all over the world with its appearance at festivals across Europe, the USA and China, and at the Commonwealth Games in Australia. We’re very excited to be bringing this to Peterborough and present it in the beautiful setting of the Cathedral.”

The Museum of the Moon runs until Sunday (October 14).

During its time in the city, there will be a programme of supporting events including music under the moon by Zimbabwean Duo, Sisters in Mbira, a silent disco and special late night openings to experience the full beauty of the moon after dark.
