Fire crews tackle 11 fires in Peterborough and north Cambridgeshire

1) On Wednesday May 4 at 3.42am one crew Stanground was called to a fire on Clifton Road in West Town, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find a car on fire. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 5.10am.

The cause of the fire was deliberate. Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

2) On Tuesday May 3 at 9.24pm, crews were called to a fire on Breach Road in Grafham. Three crews from Huntingdon, two crews from St Neots, one crew from Kimbolton and one crew from Stanground attended the incident.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the first floor flat of a two storey building. The ground floor was a restaurant. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and jets.

They cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan. The building was safely evacuated before the crews arrived. They were able to stop the fire spreading to the roof space, however the whole building suffered smoke and water damage.

The crews returned to their stations by 3.50am. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. -

3) On Tuesday May 3 on 7.26pm two crews from March were called to a fire on Station Road in March.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a bungalow spreading to the roof. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 9.30pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.

4) On Sunday May 1 at 6.46pm, one crew from Huntingdon was called to a fire on the A1 between Brampton Hut and Buckden.

Firefighters arrived to find a trailer on fire on the southbound carriageway. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 8.10am. The cause of the fire was accidental

5) On Sunday May 1 at 6.36pm one crew from Wisbech was called to a fire on Waterless Road in Wisbech.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving two cars and a caravan. They extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 8.05pm.

6) On Sunday May 1 at 5.57pm, one crew from Chatteris was called to a fire on Block Fen Drove in Chatteris.

Firefighters arrived to find a car on fire. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 6.55pm.

7) On Sunday May 1 at 5.52pm one crew from Chatteris and two crews from March were called to a fire on York Road in Chatteris.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire on the first floor of a large detached house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their stations by 8.10pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.

8) On Sunday May 1 at 3.02pm one crew from Huntingdon was called to a fire on Horse Commons Close in Huntingdon.

Firefighters arrived to find two bins well alight and extinguished them using a hose reel. One male casualty required treatment for smoke inhalation.

9) On Sunday May 1 at 1.12pm, one crew from Dogsthorpe and one crew from Stanground were called to a fire on Buckle Street in Peterborough city centre.

Firefighters arrived to find three sheds on fire spreading to a nearby fence. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their stations by 2.25pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.

10) On Saturday April 30 at 5.36pm, two crews from Huntingdon and one crew from Papworth were called to a fire on Bowlings Court in St Ives.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the upstairs bedroom of a house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan. They returned to their stations by 8.30pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

11) On Saturday April 30 at 8.20am one crew from Huntingdon was called to a fire on the A141 near Warboys.

Firefighters arrived to find a car well alight. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 9.30am.
