Last year saw residents and organisations come together on March 4 to tackle climate change by taking part in emission-reducing behaviours such as going vegan for the day, walking to work, turning down the thermostat, consuming zero plastic, planting trees and only consuming food sourced within a 30 mile radius.

Those who took part in the event included: Peterborough United Football Club, the emergency services, charities, schools, politicians and the Peterborough Telegraph.

This year’s event on Thursday will follow a similar pattern, with people taking part being urged to make a climate-friendly change on the day.

Peterborough City Council said: “As almost every decision we make has an impact on carbon emissions we all need to make climate conscious choices throughout our daily lives to be able to reach a zero carbon world.

“There are many changes you could make for the day, including eating vegetarian or vegan food, walking or cycling instead of taking the car, or turning down the heating. Further ideas are available on our March Forth webpage.

“We would love to know what everyone will be pledging for the day, so we are asking anyone taking part to share via social media on March 4 using the hashtag #PboroMarchForth.”

The council declared a climate emergency in July 24, 2019 which saw it commit to making both its activities and the city’s activities net-zero carbon by 2030.

It recently released a revised set of proposals on how to make its own activities carbon neutral, with a plan for the city expected to be released late this year.
