Delight as lighting returns to Peterborough skate park after more than a year

Lighting has been restored to a Peterborough skatepark after more than a year.

For more than a year now, Hampton Skate Park, located at Hampton Park in Hampton Hargate, has been without lighting after the previous system came to the end of its life.

This has caused a number of safety issues and forced skaters to be unable to use the facility beyond the later afternoon.

Cllr John Howard has pushed the council for action for months to restore the lighting so Hampton residents can once again return to skating and safely.

As of Thursday night (March 19), the work was completed and the skatepark was was once again illuminated.

Cllr Howard celebrated the news by saying: “Big news” After a year of pushing, for the first time in over 12 months, the Hampton Skatepark now has lighting again.

"A team has been onsite all week to get things going. I have never stopped fighting for this.

"At this point, it’s been so long, I’m not sure I believe it. It’s crazy that it has gone on so long. It took eight months to get a response. This is not the fault of any individual. It is the fault of resource. We have not got the resource to deal with when residents raise reasonable problems that we should be empowered to fix.

"“The problem is that we raise issues such as this, it is received at the other end but there is just not enough people at the other end to make it happen. It is really frustrating because it stops us doing an effective job.”
