A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Shortly before 2pm this afternoon, crews from Dogsthorpe and Stanground along with the north roaming fire engine, were called to a fire at Peterborough train station. “They arrived to find a fire involving a train. It was safely evacuated and there were no injuries. The fire is now believed to be out and the train station has been reopened.”

A spokeperson for LNER, who run the station, said: “The safety of our customers is our priority. Our team at Peterborough station took precautionary actions, including temporarily moving passengers from platform 1 and 2 and calling the fire brigade, after a fault on a Thameslink train resulted in reports of smoke.

"No action was taken by the fire brigade and a full station evacuation was not needed.

“Emergency services remain on site as a precaution while an engineer travels to assess the train. Other train services are still able to operate via alternative platforms.”
