Driver taken to hospital following Peterborough collision which shut city road

A driver was taken to hospital after a collision in Peterborough.

The incident happened at 7.30am today (December 14) on the A1139 Newark Road at Eastgate. The road was shut while emergency services worked at the scene.

A police spokesman said a Renault Clio had collided with a tree.

The spokesman added: "Emergency services attended and the driver was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with minor injuries."

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On Monday (14) at 7.30am, one crew Dogsthorpe and one crew from Stanground were called to a road traffic collision on Newark Road, Eastfield.

"Crews arrived to find a collision involving one vehicle. Firefighters used specialist equipment to release the casualty.

"Crews returned to their stations by 8.30am."
