The privately run jail, which is the only prison in the country with both male and female wings, has suspended visits during the lockdown.

However, director Damian Evans has now confirmed visits will be able to begin later this month.

Writing on the prison’s website, he said; “I am delighted that, from Monday 27 July, we are able to once again offer social visits for our residents for the first time since the national lockdown was implemented back in March. We understand how important it is for you to be able to see one another and for children to see their parents.

“This is something that we have worked very hard to prepare for, ensuring that we have all of the appropriate safeguards and measures in place to keep you, your loved one and our staff safe.”

During the visits, face coverings will have to be worn, and visitors will have their temperature taken using a non-contact thermometer as they arrive.

Two metre social distancing restrictions will be in place, and no physical contact will be allowed, including hugging, kissing, shaking hands. All visitors will have to remain seated during the visit.
