Police have arrested 22 people on suspicion of drink or drug driving in Cambridgeshire so far this month – as the annual Christmas campaign to stop people getting behind the wheel while under the influence continues.
With Christmas Party season in full swing, police are urging people to leave their car at home if they are heading for a night out.

A police spokesperson said: “It’s the night of your Christmas works do

“You’ve been looking forward to it for weeks. The decorations are up, the music’s playing, and laughter fills the pub. A nice meal, a few drinks, it's just what you needed after a long year.
“You drove there, telling yourself “Just one or two, I’ll be fine.”
“But the night rolls on. One pint turns into two… then three… and before you know it, you’ve had six.
“Now it’s time to head home. You grab your keys, thinking, “It’s only a short drive.”
“But you are way over the limit.
“The legal limit for drinking driving is 35, just two pints can put you over that.

Three Peterborough bars are offering free or discounted soft drinks to drivers this December in bid to tackle drink driving.
The Brewery Tap, The Shed and The Bottle and Board are all taking part in the I’m Des scheme.
The initiative, led by Huntingdon Business Against Crime through the Vision Zero Road Safety Partnership and funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner, aims to reduce the number of road collisions caused by drink driving during the festive period.
To take part in the December scheme, people need to let staff in participating venues know they are the designated driver and, if asked, to show their car keys.
