Rikki Neave death - timeline of events

Peterborough schoolboy Rikki was last seen alive as he set off for school from his Welland home on Monday, November 28 1994.

The lad, aged just six at the time, was reported missing later that day, and his naked body found on Tuesday, November 29 in a wooded area off Eye Road, close to Willoughby Court, near his home in the Welland Estate. He had been strangled to death.

His clothes were discovered the next day.

Ruth Neave, Rikki’s mum was arrested in January 1995 at an address in Chatteris, and was charged with child cruelty. In May 1995, she was charged with Rikki’s murder, and denied the charge.

She stood trial in October 1996, and was cleared by a unanimous decision from the jury of murder.

She was jailed for five years after admitting child cruelty.

In November 2014, Ruth urged police to re-open the investigation into Rikki’s death.

In June 2015, police officially opened the cold case review.

Despite one of the biggest police investigations ever seen in Peterborough at the time - and the cold case review and a number of public appeals, no-one has ever been convicted of the murder.
