Dean Jackson (32) of Scalfold Drive, Peterborough, was jailed for 14 weeks at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today (Friday) after District Judge Ken Sheraton heard Jackson had more than 80 previous convictions for theft.

Paul Brown, prosecuting the court Jackson had stolen the two toys - worth a total of £229.98 - from Toys R Us on March 15.

However, he had been seen removing security tags from the items, and was detained as he left the store.

Martin Newton, defending, said: “He has been out of custody for a year. His previous convictions were because of his heroin dependency, but he has not used drugs for a number of months.”

Judge Sheraton said a prison sentence was inevitable, because Jackson had breached court orders a number of times in the past, as well as for his previous convictions.

Along with the 14 week sentence, Jackson was ordered to pay an £80 surcharge.
