Police turn cars away from Peterborough Embankment in response to planned party

Police turned away cars from the Embankment in Peterborough last night having previously issued a dispersal order.

Cambridgeshire police put in place the order to begin from 5pm on Saturday in response to a planned party, and officers were at the site to prevent the event from taking place.

A police spokesperson said: “A handful of cars have turned up. We’ve spoken to the occupants and moved them on. Other than that we’re pleased to say there’s no sign of a party so far and we’ve been patrolling other sites across the city too.

“Thank you to the member of the public who came to have a chat with us and then later returned with donuts and muffins. They didn’t last long!”

Police were also in attendance at Ferry Meadows yesterday afternoon. Nene Park Trust, which runs the country park, has said its car parks will be closed today due to people not sticking to social distancing rules.
