Police appeal after dog seized for biting child in Peterborough

Police have seized a dog and appealed for information after a 9-year-old boy was badly bitten in Peterborough yesterday (February 23).

A child was left with serious injuries yesterday afternoon and taken via Air Ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital after being bitten on the arm as he walked past the dog in Braymere Road, Hampton.

The Peterborough Telegraph understands that the dog was on its lead when the incident took place.

Police seized the dog at the scene, where it will remain while investigations continue.

The dog owner, a woman, remained at the scene and no arrests have been made at this stage.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We were called at about 1.30pm today (23 February) with reports a child had been badly bitten by a dog in Braymere Road,Hampton.

“Officers and paramedics attended. The child, a boy, has been seriously injured as a result of the attack.

“The child was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for emergency surgery. The dog was seized and has been taken to kennels while the investigation progresses.

Detective Sergeant Jason Hunns added: “This was a terrifying experience for all those involved but especially the young boy who suffered a horrific arm injury.

“Since the incident, he has undergone surgery and remains in hospital while he recovers.

“Our investigation continues to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch with us if they have not done so already.”
