Residents in Netherton and Longthorpe, as well as Bretton and Westwood, have taken to social media to warn others about a woman asking for money to help pay her bills.
Police have confirmed that they are aware of these posts and have asked residents to contact them so they can arrange help, if necessary, rather than handing over any money.
A statement from the Policing Peterborough Facebook page said: “We’re aware of posts on social media about a woman knocking on doors in the Netherton and Longthorpe areas, asking for money to pay for electricity.
“After a call to us last week we turned out to the area but didn’t come across anyone matching the description. We can’t say at this time whether the woman is committing any offences, or whether she is someone genuinely in need of help, but as a precaution we are advising people not to hand over any money and to call us so we can help her if she is in need.
