Peterborough victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence urged to seek help during new lockdown

Victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence are being urged to seek help despite the country going into lockdown due to rising cases of Covid-19.

The call came from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Partnership following the announcement of the new national lockdown by Boris Johnson on Monday evening.

The Prime Minister highlighted that domestic abuse victims are allowed to leave their home as part of the new rules.

Nationally, domestic abuse charities received a large rise in calls from victims during the first lockdown.

The Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Partnership said all services remain open, including Refuge (07787255821 and www.refuge.org.uk), Peterborough Women’s Aid (08454103123 and http://www.peterboroughwomensaid.co.uk/) and Peterborough Rape Crisis (01733852578 and www.caprcp.org.uk).

It added: “The Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Partnership stress that specialist domestic abuse and sexual violence services are available to support those who require it.

“Please don’t suffer in silence, and in an emergency please call 999.”
