The court heard one of the assaults was racially motivated, and she also used homophobic language during the incident, which occured on December 10 2018.

The thefts all occurred between October 21 last year and February 12 this year, and saw her take food from Co-op and Farmfoods, and candles from Notcutts.

Along with the suspended sentence, Steels was ordered to pay £100 compensation to one assault victim, £50 compensation to the second victim, and £100 court costs. She was also ordered to take part in a mental health treatment requirement for 12 months, and a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement for 20 days.

Steels also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to custody.
