Nicholas Waters, 36, was handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) in 2017 after he made and distributed indecent images of children.

The order prevents him from owning any device that can access the internet, unless it can be subject to stringent checks by police.

In a routine visit by officers from the Public Protection Unit (PPU) on 16 June, Waters claimed his mobile phone was the only device he owned that could access the internet.

Officers searched his bedroom and found two undisclosed games consoles with internet access, as-well-as two Amazon Kindles in the wardrobe.

Waters claimed the Kindles were a gift, and he had forgotten about them, but he was arrested on suspicion of breaching his SHPO.

Waters, of no fixed address, admitted breaching the terms of his SHPO and was sentenced to six months in prison yesterday (Monday 7 September) at Peterborough Crown Court.

DS Paul Stimpson, from the northern Public Protection Unit, said: “This result has come from the tireless work of our officers in the PPU team, who closely monitor convicted sex offenders to prevent further harm to children.”
