Officers urge residents to keep an eye on vulnerable neighbours and relatives

Police have issued a warning to residents after ‘rogue traders’ were reported to be working in Peterborough.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police urged people to keep an eye on vulnerable neighbours and relatives.

They said: “We’ve received reports of traders offering works such as paving driveways but the work is never completed despite payments being made.”

Officers said signs someone could be a rogue trader include:

• Cold calling

• Pressuring you to make a quick decision

• Requesting you go to your bank and withdraw cash for the works

• No quotes or consumer protection details given

• Increasing their price part way through works

• Threats/intimidation

Residents are also advised to ask for references from recent clients, get quotes from more than one trader, and not to be hurried into making decisions.
