Peterborough police catch youngsters putting Nene Valley Railway passengers at risk in Peterborough

Youngsters are warned they are putting people at risk of serious injury after a group were caught placing items on the Nene Valley Railway.

British Transport Police and Cambridgeshire Police officers caught the group of four youths this week.

Today Kim Shaw, acting manager at Nene Valley Railway said: “This is extremely dangerous, it will be time consuming to us as a special team will have to be despatched to clear the line to make it safe and there will be costs involved to remove the items and deal with the graffiti.

“This, to me, looks like a section of our line that connects us to the main rail network, a section that, whilst not used regularly is used and is planned to be used soon. This type of vandalism could lead to serious injury.

“At the current time, when resources severely impacted by the affects of Covid this is something we do not need.”

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Peterborough officers assisted Peterborough police and located four youths placing items on the

Nene Valley Railway. Yes it is a heritage railway but trains still run along this bit of track.”
