The large crowd attended an alcohol-fuelled rave in Sheepwalk on Bank Holiday Monday, with police admitting the sheer numbers prevented them from moving the participants on, to the anger of local residents.

This was the second street party held at Sheepwalk in less than a week, and police have since secured a closure notice on a property believed to be behind the raves.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Bristow said Monday’s event was “unacceptable”.

He added: “I’ve wandered around and spoken to residents who were scared. This was 300 people causing disturbance and causing anti-social behaviour, scaring decent people.

“I’ll be writing to police to make sure they re-assure these decent people in this area about what they’re going to do to make sure that their neighbourhood is safe.

“And what’s more, we need more police officers. So when I’m arguing for more investment that our city needs, more police officers, it’s so they can come to places like Sheepwalk in Paston, doing those walk-arounds to ensure that these communities, these neighbourhoods, are safe.”
