Zahid Husaain (52) of St Paul’s Road, was parked on Oxford Road, in Peterborough on April 12 last year when traffic wardens became suspicious of the blue badge in the car.

A Prevention and Enforcement Officer asked to inspect the Blue Badge and it transpired that the badge belonged to Hussain’s son.

As it was suspected that Hussain’s son was not with him at the time the case was passed to Peterborough City Council for investigation.

Hussain was invited to attend an interview under caution at the Town Hall on several occasions. However, he failed to attend any of the appointments.

On March 16 he appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation.

He was fined £108, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge £30, and costs of £500.

A spokesperson for PCC, said: “Abuse of the blue badge scheme is not fair on genuine badge holders who need to park close to places they are visiting.

“A blue badge is for the sole use of the person named on it and must only be displayed if the badge holder is travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger.

“Regular checks are made on blue badges in the city and their usage to ensure that they are not stolen, forged or being misused and as this case has shown, offenders will be prosecuted if caught.”
