Peterborough man charged with damaging tyres in late night spree remanded into custody

A man charged with damaging a number of car tyres in a late night spree in Peterborough last week has been remanded into custody.

Police believe that more than 100 cars were affected across Dogsthorpe, Paston and Welland on Thursday night/Friday morning.

Some residents also reported having their car doors or even front doors damaged with a blowtorch.

A man was arrested on Friday, and he appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Matthew Smith, 22, of Somerby Garth, Welland, Peterborough, has been charged with 8 counts of criminal damage, 3 counts of arson and 1 count of assaulting a police officer.

He was remanded into custody, and will appear at Peterborough Crown Court on May 10.
