Peterborough drug driver given suspended sentence after being stopped twice in a month

A motorist caught drug driving has been given a suspended sentence, while drink drivers have been banned from the roads.

Andre Bell (27) of Queen Street, Yaxley was twice caught behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs.

He was first stopped in a Toyota Verso on May 29 last year on Broadway, Yaxley, when he tested positive for cannabis.

Less than a month later he was stopped again, this time in a Vauxhall Movano on the A1, when he tested positive for benzoylecgonine.

He appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court last week, where along with two counts of drug driving, he also admitted driving with no insurance, relating to the May 29 incident, and assaulting a police constable, PC Russell, on October 26.

Bell was given a 10 week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to pay PC Russell £50 compensation, and a victim surcharge of £122 and costs of £150. He was banned from driving for three years.

Ismail Abbas (19) of Cecil Road, Peterborough, was caught driving under the influence of cannabis on July 26 last year when police stopped the Vauxhall Corsa he was driving.

Abbas admitted drug driving, and was fined £200, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and £85 costs. He was banned from the roads for 12 months.

Kayton Gordon was also caught driving under the influence of cannabis.

Gorton (27) of Crabtree, Peterborough was pulled over by police as he was driving a BMW on Saxon Road on July 31.

He was fined £147, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £85. He was also banned from driving for 12 months.

Tomasz Plewa was another driver given a year ban for driving under the influence of cannabis.

Plewa (36) of Century Square, Peterborough was driving a Mazda 5 when he was stopped by police on August 6 in Lincoln Road.

Along with the ban, he was fined £120, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £85.

Zilvinas Baranauskas (30) of Ruster Way, Peterborough tested positive for alcohol and benzoylecgonine when he was stopped in his Vauxhall Insignia on the A1139 in Stanground on July 23.

His alcohol reading was 57 microgrammes (ugs) in 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35ugs.

He was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, pay a victim surcharge of £90 and costs of £85. He was also banned from the roads for 12 months.

Richardas Bielskis was nearly twice the drink drive limit when he was arrested on January 17.

He gave a reading of 67ugs in 100ml of breath, and was also arrested from driving a VW Golf on Oxney road without due care and attention.

Bielskis (54) of Newark Avenue, Peterborough, was fined £450, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £45 victim surcharge, and banned from driving for 22 months. The ban can be reduced by 22 weeks if a drink drive rehabilitation course is completed by 4/5/21.

Sergejus Gorinas (36) of West Street, Wisbech, was ordered to carry out unpaid work after he was caught nearly three times over the limit, and driving with no insurance and without a licence.

He was stopped in Falcon Road on January 16 while driving a VW Passat, and gave a reading of 96ugs in 100ml of breath.

He was told to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, pay a victim surcharge of £90, costs of £85 and was banned from driving for 50 months. The ban can be reduced by 50 weeks if the drink drive rehabilitation course is completed by 21/2/23.

Helen Turner (56) of Edmunds Close, Stamford, was banned from driving for two years after admitting driving a Vauxhall Tigra while unfit through drugs, and failing to stop after an accident. The accident happened on the A1, where damage was caused to a Mercedes Benz.

She was also ordered to take part in a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement for 10 days, and pay a £100 fine, victim surcharge of £90 and costs of £85.
