Ian Matthews (56) of Thorn Road, Hampton, broke the limit on the A605 multiple times during May last year.

The limit on the stretch of road is 60mph, and Matthews was caught driving at 70mph or over seven times. The highest speed he was caught travelling at was 78mph.

He appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court last week, where he pleaded guilty to seven counts of speeding.

He was given three points on his licence for each offence - making a total of 21 points. Drivers would normally be disqualified when they receive 12 points.

However, magistrates heard that if Matthews was banned, there would be a major impact on his job and the company he works for, and did not disqualify him from driving.

Should Matthews receive any more points on his licence, he will not be able to use that mitigation in the future to keep his licence.

Matthews was also fined £120 for each offence - a total of £840 - and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £84 and costs of £85, making a total court bill of £1,009.
