Peterborough 'career criminal' jailed for six years

Forensic evidence was used to connect Craig Chilman to two burglaries and one attempted burglary in Peterborough last year.

Chilman, 31, smashed a pane of glass to gain entry into a property in Dogsthorpe Road on October 19 where he stole various items of jewellery including a gold watch, rings and gold chains.

On October 21 he broke into a home in Oundle Road by smashing a window to steal a Wii console and Wii Fit.

He also broke into a house in Thorpe Road, Peterborough between October 10 and 13 but left empty handed.

Chilman of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to all counts after his finger prints linked him to each property.

He was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court today (February 3) to six years for each crime to be served concurrently. A further six burglaries and four theft related offences were taken into consideration during sentencing.

Detective Constable Kevin Poole said: “Chilman is a career criminal. Resident’s homes in Peterborough should be a lot safer now he’s locked up.

“This case should serve as a warning that burglary will not be tolerated and offenders face a stretch behind bars.”

The force is prioritising burglary as part of Operation Hunter, which aims to put offenders before the courts while urging residents to take home security seriously.
