Peterborough burglar who broke into home while woman slept jailed

Leroy Parkinson, 28, entered a home in Eastern Avenue, Dogsthorpe, on 13 November while the occupant was sleeping.

She was woken by her cat and dog at just gone 5am so let them outside when she noticed the back door was slightly open.

On returning to her living room, she noticed a shadow in the crack of the open kitchen door and saw something moving. She turned the light on but saw nothing.

She then went into her garden and opened up the door to an outbuilding where she found Parkinson hiding behind the door.

DS Richard Ellison, from the northern Acquisitive Crime Team, said: “The woman was left terrified after she repeatedly asked Parkinson to leave her home, but he followed her into the house and locked her in the kitchen area while he stole her purse containing £300 in cash and smashed the screen of a tablet.”

Police were called however Parkinson had already fled the area, but he was arrested the following day and later charged with burglary and criminal damage which he admitted in court.

Parkinson, of no fixed address, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday (27 July) where he was sentenced to two years and two months in prison.
