Mariusz Cieciera, (41), of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Cambridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday (June 7).

The court heard how, on June 6, Cieciera stopped the lorry he was driving in lane four of the A1m near Sawtry to urinate in the central reservation. He then pulled away whilst rolling a cigarette.

He was spotted by police and a breath test resulted in a sample of 145 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath; the legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Cieciera was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for three years.

PC Lee Morpeth from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit said: “It is completely unacceptable to get behind the wheel of any vehicle when you have been drinking as it can often have devastating consequences. Thankfully no one was injured.

“I hope his time in prison will give him chance to reflect on his actions.”
