Driver arrested after fatal A16 crash in Peterborough released under investigation

A van driver arrested after a fatal four vehicle collision on the A16 in Newborough has been released under investigation.

The collision, involving a Honda motorcycle, Peugeot Boxer, Vauxhall Insignia and a Fiat Punto, was reported to police on Friday at 5.58am.

Emergency services attended and the rider of the motorcycle - a man in his 50s from Peterborough - was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The Fiat Punto driver, a woman in her 20s, was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with minor injuries.

A third driver - a 28-year-old driver of the Peugeot Boxer - was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

Police originally said he was from Peterborough but this morning (Monday) said he was from Spalding.

A spokeswoman said he has now been released under investigation.

The road was closed on Friday to allow an investigation to take place. It re-opened at around 1.45pm.
