A drink driver caught twice in the space of 15 days has been jailed.

Petras Matulas was one of a number of drink and drug drivers who were banned from the roads at Peterborough Magistrates Court this week.

Matulas, of Fardell Road, Wisbech, was first stopped on August 14 in West Street, Wisbech. He was driving a Saab when he was pulled over by police, and later gave a breathalyzer reading of 65 microgammes (ugs) in 100 mililitres (ml) of breath. The legal limit is 35ugs.

Just 15 days later, on August 29, he was pulled over in the Saab again - this time on New Drove.

He gave a reading of 98ugs - nearly three times the limit.

He appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court this week, where he was jailed for a total of 24 weeks, with District Judge Ken Sheraton saying the prison sentence was needed because of the high reading, the fact he was on bail at the time of the second offence and the short space of time between the two offences.

Matulas was also banned from driving for seven years, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 and costs of £85.

Artur Kujuwa was banned from the roads for two years after he was caught twice the drink drive limit on the A14.

Kujuwa (42) of Saunders Close, Huntingdon, was stopped while he was driving a VW Golf on August 1. He gave a reading of 72ugs in 100ml of breath.

He also admitted failing to surrender to custody.

He was sentenced to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work, and pay a victim surcharge of £95 and costs of £85. If he completes a drink drive rehabilitation course by 1/3/22 his ban will be reduced by six months.

Callum Bennett (19) of The Steynings, Peterborough, was stopped on Bourges Boulevard on September 12.

Bennett, who was driving a Renault van, gave a reading of 50ugs in 100ml of breath.

He was fined £230, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and £85 costs. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months. His ban can be reduced by 13 weeks if he completes the course by 2/6/21.

Christopher McFadden was also banned from the roads for a year after being caught drink driving on September 12.

McFadden (40) of Peyton Avenue, March, was behind the wheel of a VW Passat when he was stopped on Wisbech Road. He gave a reading of 45ugs in 100ml of breath.

He was fined £692, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £69 and costs of £85. His ban can be reduced by 13 weeks if he completes the course by 2/6/21.

Juozas Banys (48) of Pittneys, Peterborough, was also given a 12 month disqualification.

He was stopped in Dickens Street, Peterborough on September 14 when he was driving a Vauxhall Signum, and later gave a reading of 43ugs in 100ml of breath.

Banys was fined £350, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £35 and costs of £85. His ban can be reduced by 13 weeks if he completes the course by 2/6/21.

Arunas Opulskis was stopped by officers on September 13 in St Pauls Road.

He was driving a Citroen Berlingo, and later gave a reading of 57ugs in 100ml of breath.

He was fined £923, and told to pay a victim surcharge of £92 and costs of £85. He was banned from driving for 14 months, which can be reduced by 14 weeks if he completes the course by 25/7/21.

Mohammed Ul-Hassan, of Brookfurlong, Peterborough, was caught driving a Land Rover Discovery on Warbon Avenue on September 14.

The 30-year-old gave a reading of 53ugs in 100ml of breath.

He was fined £184, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34. He was banned from driving for 12 months. His ban can be reduced by 13 weeks if he completes the course by 2/6/21.

Kevin Castle was given a 22 month ban after being caught drug driving.

Castle, of Heron Way, Benwick, was stopped on Station Road, March on March 30 when he was driving a Ford Focus. He tested positive for cocaine and benzoylecgonine.

He also admitted driving with no insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.

Along with the ban, he was fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £32.

Johanna Goodley (42) was stopped on The Great North Road at Haddon on September 22 in a Fiat 500.

Goodley gave a reading of 63ugs in 100ml of breath.

She was fined £120, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120 and costs of £85. She was banned from driving for 18 months. Her ban can be reduced by 18 weeks if the course is completed by 26/10/21.

Uldis Glauda (50) of Abbeygate Court, March, was disqualified from driving for 36 months after he was caught drink driving.

He was stopped in a Nissan X Trail on Wimblington Road, Wimblington on May 13. He gave a reading of 90ugs in 100ml of breath.

Along with the ban he was given a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement for 15 days, fined £125 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and costs of £80.His ban can be reduced by 36 weeks if he completes the course by 19/12/22.

Jason Hill was banned from driving for a year after he was caught.

Hill (39) of Bullsmoor Way, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, was stopped on the A1M at Haddon on April 29. Along with his ban he was fined £180 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £200.
