Dad of missing Peterborough teenager Bernadette Walker charged with her murder; mum charged with perverting the course of justice

The parents of missing teenager Bernadette Walker have appeared at a hearing at The Old Bailey in London in connection with the murder of their daughter.

Sarah Walker (37), and Scott Walker (50), both of Century Square in Millfield, Scott is charged with murder and two counts of perverting the course of justice, while Sarah faces two counts of perverting the course of justice.

Sarah had previously been charged with Bernadette’s murder, but she no longer faces that charge.

They appeared via video link from HMP Peterborouugh.

Both wore blue sweatshirts, with Scott wearing a blue face mask around his chin. Sarah sobbed at various points during the hearing.

Judge Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb remanded the pair into custody until the end of January.

The trial is due to take place starting in the spring, with March 9 and April 13 suggested as potential start dates. Initial estimates said it could last two weeks.

Bernadette (19) was last seen in July in Peterborough.

Bernadette’s body has not been found, but police believe she has been killed. She was reported missing on 21 July by her parents after she had not been seen for three days.

Since Bernadette’s disappearance police have carried out extensive searches in land in Peterborough and surrounding countryside in Cowbit, but her body has never been found.
