Coronavirus: Top Peterborough cop’s lockdown warning as he thanks residents for staying indoors to save lives

A leading Peterborough police officer has thanked residents in the city for complying with advice to stay indoors to save lives.

Superintendent Andy Gipp, area commander for Peterborough and Fenland said that other than a few incidents, most of the Peterborough population had stayed indoors following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s message on Monday night.

Supt Gipp said: “I’d like to send a heartfelt thanks to members of the Peterborough public who have adhered to the restrictions imposed by the Prime Minister on Monday evening.

“We’re sincerely grateful for your cooperation and your actions are helping to protect everyone, including our hospitals and the vulnerable people who need our assistance more than ever.

“The importance of everyone’s discipline is vital at this time but unfortunately we are still seeing a small number of people ignoring the guidance.

“Our officers have been and will continue to be out and about, patrolling the district to proactively communicate with these people and stress the importance of following the new rules in order to reduce the risk of harm to other.

“I want to remind our local residents that we will continue to be here for you throughout this challenging time. Please help us to help you by staying safe indoors.”
