Community order for disqualified driver who threatened Police with a knife and swallowed his car key in Peterborough

Officers on patrol in Peterborough were alerted to More Juma’s vehicle on August 11 after he drove through a red light. Later that evening, officers noticed the car parked up in Park Crescent, Peterborough.

Juma, 30, got out of his vehicle and approached the officers, who conducted checks on the car.

They discovered Juma had no insurance and no licence and was disqualified from driving.

Officers cautioned Juma and reported him for driving offences, but as they did so, he claimed he had a knife in his car and threatened to hurt them.

Officers handcuffed Juma and asked him for the key to search his vehicle, but he claimed he had swallowed it.

After a thorough search and no sign of the key, officers had to smash the window. Once inside they discovered a kitchen knife.

While under arrest, Juma made homophobic remarks towards one of the officers, who was wearing a rainbow lanyard to show support for the LGBT+ community. Later, while in custody, he made racist remarks towards another officer.

Juma, of no known address, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, possession of a blade, racially aggravated harassment and three counts of threatening behaviour. He was sentenced to a three-year community order at Peterborough Crown court on Friday (July 16). He was also handed an overnight curfew and a drug rehabilitation order.

PC Dakin, who investigated, said: “Juma not only drove while disqualified but also had a knife in his possession.

“He also went on to spout homophobic and racist abuse at our officers. Hate crime and racial abuse will not be tolerated.”
