Collapsed British bulldog found severely underweight and infected in Peterborough area

Valentino was weak, lethargic, dehydrated, severely underweight and suffering from mange. He also had severe conjunctivitis in both eyes as well as entropion and a painful ear infection.

The dog was found by a member of the public in the Peterborough area and he was collected by the RSPCA and taken straight to a Vets4Pets for urgent treatment.

He had to be put on a drip as soon as he arrived at the vets and is now receiving pain relief and treatment for his infected eyes, ears and skin and is being given regular medicated baths.

Despite everything Valentino has been through his sweet and affectionate personality is still shining through.

He is being cared for at a private boarding facility and has been named Valentino as his microchip shows he was born on Valentine’s Day and he was found on Valentine’s week.

Four-year-old Valentino was microchipped and an RSPCA inspector has followed up on the information, however, the previous owners had sold him on.

The dog was taken to RSPCA care by a woman who had found him and the RSPCA is keen for the lady to get in touch so that it can establish any further information as to how and where he was found.

RSPCA inspector Jon Knight said: “It’s heartbreaking to see a dog in such a state and know that this could have been prevented.

“Valentino has clearly been neglected for such a long time, yet despite this he is still very sweet and affectionate despite everything he has been through.

“I’m just relieved that he was found when he was as I am not sure he would have been able to have survived much longer.

“Now he is in RSPCA care and receiving all the love and care which he should have been given in the first place. It will take a long time for him to get back to full health, but at the moment the signs are promising and he’s making little steps of improvement every day.
