Cambridgeshire police warning over online puppy scam

Police have issued a warning about people being tricked out of money after responding to an advert to buy a puppy online.

Cambridgeshire police said there had been 10 reports of the fraud across the East of England.

Police stated: “We’re asking residents to take extra caution when buying pets online following a number of reports of fraud across the region.⚠️

“In the last three weeks there have been 10 reports in the eastern region of people being tricked out of money after responding to an advert to buy a puppy online.

“On each occasion the buyer has transferred money to the seller but when they’ve gone to collect the puppy, they have found that they’ve been given the wrong address.

“The Covid-19 lockdown is being used as a reason for requesting money before the exchange has taken place.❌

“We know that puppies can be pretty irresistible but please be extra cautious when shopping for your new pooch!
