Call for more police patrols after thieves strike in Peterborough neighbourhood

Residents are calling for more security following a spate of thefts in Peterborough in one night.

There were a series of break ins in the Ortons over night between Saturday and Sunday, with bikes and other items stolen.

Orton Waterville councillor Julie Howell said: “Several cars were rummaged and a bike was stolen from a shed.

“Two children’s bikes were also stolen from another address.

“The two thieves were captured on CCTV trying car doors.

“There’s lots of CCTV from people’s homes showing them trying car doors and garage doors. I’d say they are late teens/early 20s, casually dressed, hoods up.

“Residents are calling for additional police patrols and CCTV.”

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said: “We received three reports of burglaries and/or attempted burglaries in garages and sheds in Peterborough in the early hours of Saturday (30 August).

“At about 2am, there was an attempted burglary of a garage at an address in Fraserburgh Way in Orton Southgate.

“At about 2.20pm, there was a burglary of a garage at an address in Rosyth Avenue in Orton Southgate where cans of beer were stolen.

“A shed was also broken into at an address in Kelburn Road and a bike was stolen.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

“Anyone with information can call us on 101 quoting incident 321 of 30 August.”
