Busy Easter weekend for fire crews in Peterborough as they deal with a number of incidents

Fire crews have had a busy Easter weekend (April 2-5) dealing with a number of incidents in the Peterborough area.

Crews from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a number of incidents over the extended Easter weekend, including a number of house fires and road traffic collisions.

The incidents are listed below:

Friday April 2

Building fire in Orton Longueville

“At 3.04pm on Friday crews from Stanground and Dogsthorpe were called to a fire on Oundle Road in Orton Longueville, Peterborough.

“Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a two-story building. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan. The crews returned to their stations by 4.55pm.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”

House fire in Dogsthorpe

“At 4.23pm on Friday crews from the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade and Dogsthorpe were called to a fire on Primrose Close in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough.

“Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan. They returned to their stations by 5.15pm.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”

Road traffic collision in Thorney

“At 10.23pm on Friday crews from Thorney and Dogsthorpe were called to a road traffic collision on English Drove in Thorney.

“Firefighters arrived to find a collision involving two vehicles. Using specialist cutting equipment they released a female casualty who was left in the care of ambulance crews.

“The crews returned to their stations by 11.45pm.”

Saturday April 3

House fire in South Bretton

“At 1.35pm on Saturday the north roaming fire engine and a crew from the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a fire on School Close in South Bretton.

“Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the porch area of a house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their stations by 3pm.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”

Monday April 5

Open fire in Millfield

“At 2.45pm on Monday a crew from Dogsthorpe was called to a fire on Gladstone Street in Millfield, Peterborough.

“Firefighters arrived to find a fire at the rear of a commercial premises involving rubbish and extinguished it using a hose reel. They returned to their station by 3.30pm.

“The cause of the fire was deliberate. Anyone with information should contact police by visiting www.cambs.police.uk to submit an online report or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

House fire in Woodston

“At 11.58am on Monday crews from Stanground and Dogsthorpe were called to a fire on The Squires in Woodston.

“Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the first floor of a house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels. One female casualty was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and burns and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“The crews returned to their stations by 3.30pm.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”
