Air ambulance charity hit out after collection box stolen from city pub

A charity has hit out at a thief who stole a collection box from a Peterborough pub - denying the cause vital funds raised by generous drinkers.

The box had been displayed at the Wortley Almshouses in Westgate, Peterborough, to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).

It was stolen from the pub at around 7.45pm on March 13.

It is thought the box contained about £50 which had been donated by punters at the city centre pub.

Joanna Dew, EAAA Director of Fundraising said work was being done to recover the money stolen in the theft.

She said: “We are very disappointed to hear about this.

“It is very sad that someone would steal from a lifesaving charity which relies on people’s generosity.

“We do all we can to protect and respect all the donations given by local people and we will do all we can to recover this collection box.”

Now police have released a picture of a man they want to trace in connection with the theft.

PCSO Matt Lauch, from Cambridgeshire police said: “I am appealing for anyone who may know the man in the CCTV images to contact police as I am keen to speak to him.”
