Drug dealer who hid in bushes to escape police is jailed for more than four years

A drug dealer who hid in bushes in a bid to evade police in Peterborough has been jailed for more than four years.

Cambridgeshire police say that Mohammed Mayar (23) ran off from neighbourhood officers when they spotted him with a drug user in Oxford Road, Millfield, Peterborough.

Police say that during the chase, he had dropped a small plastic bag containing 243 wraps of class A drugs – 68 wraps of crack cocaine and 175 wraps of heroin which had a combined street value of up to £2,430.

A police spokesperson said: “Mayar was found hiding in Century Square, Millfield, and officers found he was carrying £107.25 in cash.

The incident occurred at about 11.15pm on July 13.

Police say that Mayar, of no fixed address, initially denied possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine, but was found guilty following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court in February.

He was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on July 23.

Detective Constable Gracz, who investigated, said: “This is not Mayar’s first drug dealing conviction as he had been given a suspended sentence just over a week before this arrest.

“Drug dealing and its associated criminality can have a big impact on communities, and I would like to encourage anyone with concerns to report them.”
