Church holds first Heritage Open Day

Many visitors took the chance to find Alfred Caleb Taylor’s gravestone cross and read the display about his life and work.

In addition, a collection of about 20 old Bibles were displayed on pillows to protect the delicate spines, and visitors were able to put on cotton gloves as they looked through them.

Many spent time walking slowly round the church, looking at the displays about the stained-glass windows, parts of a church, 
First World War memorials, how landmarks such as Thorpe Hall and Longthorpe Tower are linked to the church and the prayer corner.

Moreover, about ninety people attended two talks on the history of the church.

Preparations are now underway for the St Botolph commemoration of the First World War One casualties and veterans. #

A special memorial service is planned at the church for Saturday, November 3 at 7pm.
