Biology brought to life at Stamford school

Stamford’s Big Biology Day returned to Stamford High School yesterday (Saturday) with visitors able to get their hands on a number of exhibits and attractions.

Stamford Community Orchard was there to get people involved in the exciting activity of apple pressing, along with volunteers from Rutland Water who told visitors about the re-introduction of the wonderful osprey and the Exotic Pet Refuge who brought some of its furry friends to the event.

Scientists from Nottingham University, Lincoln University and the Sanger DNA sequencing centre in Cambridge were on hand to answer questions from visitors.

Organiser Anne Johnstone said: “There was so much to do at last year’s event, that many people stayed for the entire day and others commented that if they had realised how many activities there would be, they would have come earlier.”
